News 1 - Germany Tops 2016 Logistics Performance Index

Logistics Performance Index

The latest edition of the Logistics Performance Index released by the World Bank, which is a part of the Bi-Annual report – Connecting to Compete 2016: Trade Logistics in the Global Economy, ranks 160 countries on their trade logistics performance. For the third time, Germany is the top performer. Syria ranked the lowest.

India’s ranking jumped from 54 in 2014 to 35 in 2016. India’s international supply chain efficiency was at 75%, when compared to the top-ranked Germany.

News 2 - The Networked Readiness Index (NRI) 2016 places India at the 91st position

According to Networked Readiness Index (NRI) 2016 released by the Geneva based World Economic Forum (WEF), India was assigned the 91st rank. This report states the countries’ success in creating the necessary conditions for a transition to a digitized economy and society. Networked Readiness Index (NRI) is a part of WEF’s Global Information Technology Report 2016.

The countries who topped the index were Singapore, followed by Finland, Sweden, Norway and the United States. It means that these countries excel when it comes to economically benefiting from investments in information and communications technologies. Europe remains at the technology frontier because index shows seven of the top 10 NRI countries are European.

News 3 - World's Highest-Paid Celebrities 2016 list ‘Celebrity 100’ unveiled by Forbes

World's highest-paid celebrities list of 2016 was unveiled by Forbes, ranking 100 celebrities across the globe, on the basis of income, Google hits, fan base, press clips and magazine covers. The list was named as ‘Celebrity 100’.

The list was topped by Taylor Swift with earnings of 170 million US dollars. Two Indian actors were included in the top 100 list with Shahrukh Khan at the 86th rank and Akshay Kumar at the 94th rank.

News 4 - All-Asia Executive Team Rankings 2016 ranks HDFC Bank's Aditya Puri as Asia’s best banking CEO

The Asia Investor Community has announced the Chief Executive and Managing Director of HDFC Bank, Aditya Puri as the Asia’s best banking Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and HDFC Bank’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Sashi Jagdishan as Asia’s best CFO. HDFC Bank was also ranked as the best IR company, thereby making it the most honoured one in the Institutional Investor magazine. The technology used in HDFC bank, particularly in semi urban areas, was one of the reason behind the company’s top ranking.

A survey was done among 1,541 companies from 18 sectors across Asia, excluding Japan.

News 5 - The 2016 Skytrax awards announced Emirates as the World's Best Airline

According to a survey of millions of airline passengers conducted by Skytrax, Dubai based Emirates Airlines is the world's best airline for 2016. The survey was on the basis of the consistency of the quality service among the world's top carriers.

This Airline also won the World’s Best Inflight Entertainment for a record 12th consecutive year, and also received the Best Airline in the Middle East, bringing its total Awards since 2001 to 20. Not to be outdone, Qatar Airlines won three other awards, which are – World’s Best Business Class, Best Business Class Airline Lounge and the Best Airline Staff Service in the Middle East.

News 6 - Seven Indian firms in the Fortune 500 List

Seven Indian Companies

There are Seven Indian Companies have made it to the latest Fortune 500 list of the World's Biggest Corporations in terms of revenue with the Retail Giant Walmart topping the global rankings. Among the seven Indian companies, four are from the public sector.

Indian Oil Corp is ranked highest at the 161st position among the Indian firms. Among the State-Run majors, Indian Oil is followed by SBI (232nd), Bharat Petroleum (358th) and Hindustan Petroleum (367th). Private Gems and Jewelry major Rajesh Exports Ltd has made its debut at 423rd position. Reliance Industries Ltd (215th) is the topranked among Private Sector Firms, followed by Tata Motors (226th) Ltd and Rajesh Exports.

News 7 - India ranks 110th on the Sustainable Development Index

India has ranked a low 110 out of 149 in the new Sustainable Development Goal Index launched by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Bertelsmann Stiftung. This index provides a report card for tracking Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) progress and ensuring accountability. It ranks countries based on their performance across the 17 global goals.

Sweden tops the chart followed by Denmark and Norway respectively. Germany, UK, US, Russia and China are ranked 6th, 10th, 25th, 47th and 76th respectively on the index. Pakistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are ranked 115th, 117th, 118th and 139th respectively.

News 8 - CSIR Ranks 12th in the World Among Government Institutions: Scimago Institutions Rankings

The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has been ranked 12th in the world among the Government Institutions in the world, improving its position after being at the 14th spot for three consecutive years, according to the 2016 report of the prestigious Scimago Institutions Rankings.

The overall global ranking of CSIR also improved from 110th to the 99th position. CSIR is the only Indian organization to have found a place among the top 100 global institutions.
