Step 1 − When the function of position with rest to time is given, we can calculate function of velocity w.r.t time.
Step 2 − When we have function of velocity then we can calculate definite velocity at a given time.
Example
A particle is moving and its position is given by −
x = 2t2 - 6t + 3
Step 1
Instantaneous velocity is given by −
v = dxdt
The function of velocity is obtained as −
v = 4t - 6
Step 2
Instantaneous velocity at 5.28sec is obtained by −
v = 4(5.28) - 6
v = 21.12 - 6
v = 15.12 ms-1
