Breathing and Exchange of Gases

Breathing is the process of movement of air into and out of the lungs in order to facilitate gaseous exchange, by bringing in oxygen and expelling out carbon dioxide. Respiration involves the process of production of energy by taking in oxygen and giving out carbon dioxide. The oxygen delivered to all the cells of the body due to respiration, is utilized in various metabolic activities and energy is generated. During this process carbon dioxide is formed which is harmful and hence is expelled out by the respiratory system.
