When two mirror are placed together making an angle θ between them, then multiple images are formed as shown.
Number of images formed can be calculated by using the following formula −
This formula is used when 360/θ is even i.e. two images overlap each other.
This formula is used when 360/θ is odd.
Where,
𝑛 = Number of images formed.
θ = Angle between the mirrors.
Example
If angle between the mirrors is 120o
n =360θ∴ n =360120= 3Three images will be formed when angle between the mirrors is 120o
If angle between the mirrors is 90o
n =360θ- 1∴ n =36090- 1 = 3Maximum three images will be formed when angle between the mirrors is 120o
Note − Number of images will be odd always.
