Multiple Images

Description:

When two mirror are placed together making an angle θ between them, then multiple images are formed as shown.

Number of images formed can be calculated by using the following formula −

This formula is used when 360/θ is even i.e. two images overlap each other.

This formula is used when 360/θ is odd.

Where,

𝑛 = Number of images formed.

θ = Angle between the mirrors.

Example

• If angle between the mirrors is 120^o

  n =

  360/θ
  ∴ n =

  360/120

  = 3

  Three images will be formed when angle between the mirrors is 120^o

• If angle between the mirrors is 90^o

  n =

  360/θ

  - 1
  ∴ n =

  360/90

  - 1 = 3

  Maximum three images will be formed when angle between the mirrors is 120^o

Note − Number of images will be odd always.
