Eukaryotes - Centrosome and Centrioles
Description:
Centrosome is an organelle which contains two cylindrical structures called centrioles. The centrioles lie perpendicular to each other.
Each centriole is a microtubular structure and is formed of microtubules arranged in 9 + 0 manner (all microtubules are arranged in peripheral position).
Each microtubule is a triplet and is formed of three subtubules which are called A, B and C.
The central part of the centriole is called the hub. The hub is connected with the tubules of the peripheral triplets by radial spokes made of protein.
The basal body of the cilia and flagella is formed by the centrioles. The centrioles form the spindle fibres in animal cells that give rise to spindle apparatus during cell division.
