Eukaryotes - Introduction
Description:
Eukaryotes includes all protists, plants, animals and fungi. They have proper membrane bound cell organelles unlike that of prokaryotes and hence there is extensive compartmentalization of cytoplasm.
Eukaryote possess an organized nucleus with a nuclear membrane. They possess complex structures for locomotion.
Genetic material of eukaryotes are present in the nucleus and is organized into definite condensed structures called chromosomes.
Plant and animal cells both are eukaryotic but they are not identical. Plant cells possess cell walls, plastids and a large central vacuole which are absent in animal cells. Animal cells have centrioles which are absent in plant cells.
