Description:

Ribosomes

  • Ribosomes are associated with the plasma membrane of the cell.

  • They are of 70S type and are made up to two subunits 50S and 30S. The S stands for Svedberg unit which is a measure of the sedimentation coefficient.

  • Robosomes are the sites of protein synthesis. They translate the mRNA into proteins.

  • At times several ribosomes remain attached to a single mRNA and form a chain. These type of ribosomes are called polyribosomes or polysome.

Inclusion Bodies

  • Inclusion bodies are a form to store reserve materials in prokaryotic cells.

  • They are not membrane bound and remain fee in the cytoplasm.

  • Eg: phosphate granules, cyanophycean granules and glycogen granules.
