Description:

The changes in a cell that occurs during the G0 phase of interphase are as follows −

  • Also known as the quiescent stage.
  • Stage of inactivation of cells cycle.
  • Absence of mitogens and energy rich compounds.
  • The cells remain metabolically active but they do not grow or differentiate.
  • Cells are like reserve cells which can continue cell cycle any time.
  • These cells enter G1 phase when required and can undergo cell differentiation and specialization e.g. nerve cells, muscle cells, red blood cells etc.
