Description:
The changes in a cell that occurs during the G0 phase of interphase are as follows −
- Also known as the quiescent stage.
- Stage of inactivation of cells cycle.
- Absence of mitogens and energy rich compounds.
- The cells remain metabolically active but they do not grow or differentiate.
- Cells are like reserve cells which can continue cell cycle any time.
- These cells enter G1 phase when required and can undergo cell differentiation and specialization e.g. nerve cells, muscle cells, red blood cells etc.
