The changes in a cell that occurs during the G2 phase of interphase are as follows −

  • Known as G2 - phase or Gap –II or Post-synthetic or Pre-mitotic phase or second growth phase.
  • Synthesis of DNA stops.
  • Synthesis of spindle proteins.
  • Formation of three types of RNA namely t-RNA, r-RNA and m-RNA.
  • Synthesis and storage of ATP molecules.
  • Duplication of mitochondria and plastids.
  • Damaged DNA is repaired in this stage.
