Published on:  on 6th Dec, 2017

Description:

Changes that a cell undergo during metaphase are as follows −

  • Chromosomes arrange at the equator in one equatorial plane or metaphase plate.

  • Each centromere is joined by two chromosomal fibre one from each pole.

  • After attachment the chromosome fibres tighten which bring the chromosome at the equator of the spindle. This phenomenon of bringing chromosomes at the equator of the spindle is known as congression.

  • The chromosomes form an apparent plate called metaphasic or equatorial plate.

  • Metaphase is the best phase to count the number and the morphology of the chromosomes.
