Description:

The different types of mitosis that may occur are as follows −

  • Anastral mitosis − Found in plants which has spindles devoid of aster.

  • Amphiastral mitosis − Found in animals having two asters, one at each pole.

  • Intranuclear or Promitosis − Nuclear membrane is not lost and spindle is formed inside the nuclear membrane.

  • Extranuclear or Eumitosis − Nuclear membrane is lost and spindle is formed outside nuclear membrane.

  • Endomitosis − Chromosomes and their DNA duplicate but fail to separate which lead to polyploidy.

  • Free nuclear division − Nucleus undergoes repeated karyokinesis but no cytokinesis occurs between them. This leads to multinucleate or coenocytic condition.
