Published on:  on 6th Dec, 2017

Description:

The significances of the stage of Meiosis I are as follows −

  • It involves disjunction and reduces the chromosome number.
  • Chromosomal and genomic mutation may occur due to non-disjunction.
  • Recombination of genes occur and so variations are produced due to crossing over.
  • There is random distribution of paternal and maternal chromosomes into daughter cells.
  • Due to disturbance in disjunction, chromosomal and genomatic mutation take place.
  • Meiosis I induces the cells to form spores or gametes.
