Description:

The arrangement and distribution of veins and veinlets in leaf lamina is called venation. Veins form the structural framework of blades.

Leaves are the ultimate branches of conducting channels which pass into vascular tissue of stem. Veins are made up of conducting tissues xylem and phloem.

Types of venation

  • Reticulate venation − When veins are irregularly distributed to form a network. Mostly found in dicots.

  • Parallel venation − When veins are arranged parallel and do not form a network. Mostly found in monocots.
