Seed - Introduction

Description:

The ovules develop into seeds after fertilization. Seed is made up of seed coat and an embryo. It contains reserve food material.

Embryo is the future plant in miniature condition.

In seed the metabolic activities get suspended to pass over the unfavourable conditions.

The embryo is made up of radical, plumule and one or two cotyledons.

In some seeds food is stored in endosperm. Seeds which store food in endosperm are called endospermic seeds or albuminous seeds. Seeds which store food in cotyledons are called non-endospermic or exalbuminous seeds.
