Description:
Roots are the underground cylindrical part of the plant. They grow from the radical and goes vertically down into the soil.
Roots lack leaves, nodes, internodes and buds. They possess root and its branches. They are positively geotropic and colourless due to the absence of chlorophyll.
Root cap is over the apex. Branches arise from inner region, thus are endogenous.
Roots possess root hairs which are unicellular tubular structures.
The primary function of the root is to fix the plant with the soil and absorb water and mineral nutrients.
