Ammeter From Galvanometer

Description:

A galvanometer can be used as a device to measure the current flowing through a circuit known as Ammeter. As galvanometer can only measure a small amount of electric current we need to use a shunt to measure large value of current.

Ammeter

Shunt

Shunt is a low resistance placed parallel to the galvanometer coil. The excess current that cannot be measured by the galvanometer coil is passed through the shunt.

υ = S(i - ig) = G ig

Equation of ammeter is –

S(i - ig) = G ig
