The direction of magnetic field is given by right hand palm rule given by Biot Savart.
Right Hand Palm Rule
The right hand palm rule states that, place the thumb of the right hand in the direction of current in the conductor and extend the fingers in the direction of ‘r’ i.e. towards the point where magnetic field is to be determined. Now the direction which is normal to the palm gives the direction of magnetic field at that point.
The strength of magnetic field at any point is dependent upon the angle between the distance vector of the point and the current element, for maximum strength angle should be 90o.
If a point lies in the line of current carrying element, then the magnetic field at this point is always zero.
