The reproductive characteristics of cyanobacteria are as follows −

  • Mostly reproduce by asexual methods.
  • Asexual methods include binary fission, fragmentation, endospores etc.
  • Typical sexual reproduction involving formation and fusion of gametes is absent.
  • Recombination can occur by three types of parasexual methods- conjugation, transformation and transduction.
