The characteristic features of Sarcodina are as follows −

  • Also known as amoeboid protozoans.
  • Can be either uninucleate of multinucleate.
  • Found in fresh water or marine environment.
  • They are endoparasitic and are also pathogenic.
  • Locomotion occurs by temporary figure like projections called pseudopodia or false feet.
  • Pseudopodia are used for both locomotion and food capturing.
  • Heterotrophic and holozoic in nutrition.
  • Asexual reproduction occurs by binary fission or multiple fission.
  • Some forms may show sexual reproduction by syngamy.
