Monera is a kingdom of prokaryotes. They are also known as procaryota. It includes the most primitive form of life on earth which developed from an early stock known as progenote. Bacteria were discovered by Leeuwenhoek in 1676.
They possess the following traits −
- Unicellular.
- Peptidoglycan cell wall.
- Naked circular DNA folded to form nucleoid.
- Membrane bound cell organelles are absent.
- Ribosomes are 70S in nature.
- They have varied modes of nutrition
- Flagella is single stranded and made up of flagellin protein.
