Description:
Kingdom Protista was proposed by Ernst Haeckel in 1866. All single celled eukaryotes are placed in Kingdom Protista.
Protista act as a connecting link between the prokaryotic kingdom- Monera and the complex multicellular kingdoms – fungi, plantae and Animalia. They are regarded as ancestor of all multicellular eukaryotic organisms.
Protista are mostly aquatic organisms found in sea, fresh water and moist soil. Many are also found in the form of plankaton. Some live in the bodies of animals as parasites.
