Description:

Parasitic Bacteria live in contact with other living being for obtaining nourishment or special organic compounds required for its growth. Parasitic bacteria may or may not cause disease.

The bacteria which causes disease are called pathogenic Bacteria. The disease caused by these pathogenic bacteria is due to the breakdown of host cells or liberation of toxins.

Toxins can be of two types −

  • Endotoxins − Toxins which are located within a cell.

  • Exotoxins − Toxins secreted by the bacteria and released outside the cells.

In plants, the bacterial diseases rank second to fungal diseases. A common plant disease is crown galls caused by Agrobacterium tumefaciens.
