Antibiotics are substances produced by micro-organisms in low concentration. They have got antagonistic effect to the growth of other micro-organisms. Medicinally antibiotics are those substances which checks the growth of pathogens without harming the host.
The first commercial antibiotic discovered was Penicillin form the bacterium Penicillium by Fleming in the year 1929. However, the first extracted antibiotic was from a mycelial bacterium by Gratia and Tash in 1924.
