Kingdom Monera Reproduction - Sporulation
Description:
The process of forming spores is known as sporulation. Bacteria produce several spores called gonidia, sporangiospores, anthrospores, conidia, cysts and endospores.
Endospores are highly thick–walled and resistant spores which are formed in response to adverse environmental condition, presence of harmful waste products or aging of bacterial colonies. Endospores can tolerate a temperature of 100oC. Toxic chemicals have no effect on these endospores. The resistant nature of endospores is due to the presence of thick wall, low water content and presence of an anticoagulant chemical known as dipicolinic acid.
