Charging a Body by Induction
Description:
Step 1 − Take an uncharged conductor with net charge = 0.
Step 2 − On Bringing an excess charged body near to the neutral body and keeping it in a certain distance. It will be observed that the free charges in conductor gets polarized.
Step 3 − Connect the neutral body with earth, due to this the unbound electric charges will escape to the earth.
Step 4 − On removing the earthing and also the excess charged body. It will be found that the net charge on the body does not remain zero. The net charge becomes (+I)
In this way the body is charged by induction.
Bound Charges
The portion of the electric charges on a body that because of the force of attraction of a neighbor charge will not escape to the earth when the body is grounded.
Free Charges
The portion of electric charges on the body that are free to escape from the body to the earth when the body is grounded.
