Permittivity
Permittivity is an electrical characteristics of medium due to which it absorbs effects of charge due to which force is applied on other charge.
- It is denoted by E (epsilon).
- It is expressed in number and unit.
- Relation between coulumb’s constant (C) and epsilon (E) is
C = 14πε
Where value of E depends on Medium.
The standard of force between the two charges.
F = 14πε q1q2r2
The unit of E is C2N-1 M-2
Where,
‘C’ denotes coulomb.
‘N’ denotes Newton.
‘m’ denotes meter.
In free space the value of E is 8.85 × 10-12C2N-1M-2
Value to remember C = 9 × 109Nm2C2
E = 8.85 × 10-12C2N-1M-2
