Quantization

Description:

Everything quantity in physics can be measured. So whenever a body is charged, the quantity of charge acquired by the body can also be measured by using the property of QUANTIZATION of charges. Its calculation is done with the fact that charge is always carried out by transfer of electron and the number of electron that is transferred will give charge acquired by the body.

Note − The increase of charge on a body is not a continuous quantity. It increases in steps. so, When we increase the charge, it does not increase for all the values.

Principal of quantization of charge

Quantityof charge on a body is an integral multiple of charge on an electron.

Q = ne

Let, charge carried by 1 electron = e

So, charge carried by n electron = ne

So quantization of charge (Q) is given by −

Q = ne

Where

  • ‘e’ is the charge on one electron.( e = 1.6∗10-19)

  • ‘n’ is number of electrons transferred to a body.

  • ‘Q’ is the quantity of charges.

Note

‘n’ is always a whole number.

Because electron is a smallest quantity and it cannot be broken. So number of electron cannot be in fraction.
